An Intro to Ozzy!
Hey, guys! This is Jeremy Osborne, AKA Ozzy, your correspondent for West Virginia.
A little about me and my short history with the game of hockey:
I’ve been an on and off fan of the New Jersey Devils since around ’94, ’95. About four years ago, I convinced my then 6 year old daughter to go out for a Try Hockey For Free session at the local rink here in Morgantown, WV. After having a great time for that hour, along with making friends with a couple of the female players that were about her age, she wanted to sign up right away.
That was the beginning of my family’s lives revolving around hockey. My daughter started out only playing with the Girls’ side of the association that had just restarted at the rink. Before long, she was asked to play Mites with the boys as well. (The league that the association plays in allows girls to roster on two teams, otherwise the girls teams would have died off a long time ago.)
Now, a couple of years later, she’s playing on a 14 and Under Girls’ team, along with a Pee Wee level team where she’s the only girl.
Also, this year will be the year that our twin four year old boys hit the ice as Mini-mites.
My wife has been a coach/assistant coach/team Mom for the Girls’ team for the past couple of years.
And I got a taste of being a Tournament Director last season when we hosted the post-season playoffs for the Girls. A lot of fun, a lot of work, a couple of headaches.
That’s the rough outline for me and my family. A hockey dad, occasionally helping out on the ice.
Lastly, with my introduction out of the way, I’ll be combing our lovely state this coming month for interesting stories. I hope I can also rely on you, however, to maybe send me some good hockey photos, as well as point me towards some newsworthy stories and events.
I’ll be talking to you all soon.
